A public space taking shape in Muxara, Pemba

In the Muxara neighbourhood of Pemba City, ALPS is building a shared public space for families and children together with IOM. A covered pavilion for events, multi use fields, shaded seating, garden benches and solar lighting are being brought onto one site, with a full length accessible ramp so the space works for older residents and people with reduced mobility.

Muxara is one of the peri urban neighbourhoods that has grown fast as families displaced from northern Cabo Delgado have settled in Pemba, and open space of this kind is scarce. Structures are complete, final works are underway, and handover to the community is expected in the coming weeks.
