A public space for Muxara

In the Muxara neighbourhood of Pemba, Cabo Delgado, ALPS Resilience is building a public space for the whole community, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration.

Where there was open ground, a complete public space has taken shape, built in phases: a covered pavilion with a metal roof, tiered concrete stands, walkways, urban furniture, standalone solar lighting, and an all-weather sports field with a football and basketball court and a shaded place to gather.

Every element has been delivered by our own local team, to a standard designed to last and to serve the neighbourhood every day. Building in phases has let the community watch the space rise, and take ownership of it, step by step.

Public spaces like this give a recovering city back something simple and vital: a safe, shared place for families to spend the day, for young people to play sport, and for children to play. Investing in places to gather is investing in health, in social cohesion, and in the wellbeing of the next generation.
