Under IOM Mozambique's community stabilisation and durable solutions programming, ALPS Resilience is delivering water access, public space and community facility projects for displaced and host communities across three districts of Cabo Delgado Province: Pemba City, Mocimboa da Praia and Metuge.

In Pemba, the completed Muxara Public Space has transformed a vacant lot in a neighbourhood that received significant numbers of displaced persons into a vibrant public asset. The space includes a covered pavilion, a football pitch with spectator stands, a public fountain, garden benches and solar lighting. The works were carried out by a team that included twenty young people recruited directly from the Muxara neighbourhood, and an addendum for a multipurpose sports platform is scheduled to extend the space further this year.

In Mocimboa da Praia, a district still recovering directly from the impact of armed conflict, ALPS has completed the Milamba Community Centre: a multipurpose space with an adjoining football field, built from the ground up with local labour and fitted with an accessibility ramp so that everyone in the community can make use of it. The centre provides a permanent space for community dialogue, vocational activities and social gathering.

At Ntocota displacement site in Metuge District, work on a new borehole with an Afridev hand pump is in progress. A geophysical survey was completed prior to drilling, and the team has continued advancing toward the target depth despite encountering rock along the way. Casing and pump installation are the next steps before the borehole is handed over to the community.

All design, procurement, construction management, quality assurance and reporting is handled directly by ALPS through its licensed Mozambican construction entity, mobilising locally recruited teams at each site. None of this is possible without the continued partnership and trust of IOM, and the hard work of the local teams who build it, block by block. The full programme update is available above.
